Truckstop Ducks
I was in Hagerstown Maryland yesterday at the Pilot truckstop taking my break and I had a close encounter with a gaggle of hungry ducks. This was the most eclectic group of ducks I have ever seen and I found out they live in a small pond behind the truckstop and pretty much run the entire area. I’ve seen truck drivers speed up to hit a deer (its the safeset way to avoid an accident) but they would slam on the brakes to avoid the group of ducks and patiently wait for them to get out of the way. It was pretty cool, they would go from truck to truck looking for treats and the drivers were happy to oblige, even me, I got rid of an old box of ritz crackers. Hope ya’ll enjoyed the pics..

Ah, that is so cute. There used to be a restaurant down by the river here where there was a big flock of similar ducks. When kids came in the door they handed them a roll of crackers and sent them to the lawn in back. Happy kids and happy ducks. How our kids loved to go there!

YEP, they need to rename the place Duck Truck Stop!
We have these ducks by me too, maybe it’s a Maryland thing! haha. I researched and found they were called Duclair Mallards (or white-bibbed mallards). Always a friendly duck around here approaching people, they hang around our waterfront dock bars looking for a fry or some duck feed from the 25 cent machine.
In Maryland you were so close to me (2-3 hours!) If you’re going to cross that Chesapeake Bay Bridge from Annapolis to Eastern Shore, you better let me know! We can at least have a soda or coffee & a quick chat to personally say hello!
