Well, my OCD got the best of me again last night while driving, I kept noticing the moon peeking out behind the scattered clouds almost calling to me. Hey, stop the truck and take my picture it seemed to say, I tried to ignore it but well, whats a few minutes between friends. So I found a convienient offramp and grabbed the o’l Nikon and spent a few quality moments with my favorite subject, enjoy and I’ll see ya’ll tomorrow for Sunday Stills.

Posted in Photography, Skywatch Friday with tags lunar, moon, Skywatch Friday on July 31, 2009 by EdHappy friday! Since I missed last week I’ll first post a pic of the moon from last Thursday and then a shot from last evening.

The coloring is from the eastern horizon just after moonrise.

And this shot from last evening was taken around 9:45pm EST. As the mooon rises the sun reflecting off the moons surface starts to wash out the color and detail, so its best to photograph it early at moonrise or later at moonset when it is on the western horizon. If there are alot of wildfires on the westcoast it really gives the moon a nice orange to red tone..
Hell’s Kitchen aka. The decline of cooking shows on t.v.
Posted in Mindless Rants with tags Hells's Kitchen on July 30, 2009 by EdI rarely get a chance to watch t.v. but I have found Hulu on my laptop can watch a few good shows. Last year I found a cooking challenge show called Hell’s Kitchen with Gordon Ramsey and enjoyed the first two seasons alot, then came season three….
First off this season, with only two shows has totally turned me off to the sellout known as Gordon Ramsey and the network FOX. These corporate douchbags have ruined a great show by turning it into a scripted reality show that is only one step higher than the Hogans or Gene Simmons show! I’m talking the bottom of the barrel here. I guess they pick up these contestants letters from anyone who thinks they can cook and talk alot of smack, I would say only 3 of the contestants this series can actually live up to actually running a restaraunt, the rest are there to start problems, get into fights and just try to be annoying. The blowup between JP and the retard from Texas, Van was so obviously scripted it made me laugh, and Joseph was just there to spice up ratings and give the show some drama (NOT!!!) The last episode had Jo and Ramsey facing off and Jo wanting Ramsey to meet him in the parking lot, YEECH!!! The amount of smack talking is getting rediculous, just shut up and cook, its really getting tiresome hearing the contestants whining in the meat lockers after some made up drama has just occured. Anyway, its just getting rediculous. I wish Hulu would carry some real cooking shows like Iron Chef, or Chopped. Little drama more cooking.
Hava great day…Ed
P.S. I also like Royal Pains, and Wherehouse 13, not the best shows but entertaining..:-)

More Butterflies
Posted in Insects, Macro, Photography, flowers with tags Butterflies, Macro Photography on July 28, 2009 by EdI got to spend the afternoon with my folks at their art group picnic yesterday and met some very nice and talented folks. Of course me being me I soon found myself nose deep in a patch of yellow flowers loaded with butterflies and bees. As they buzzed around me and I was inched from my subjects a shadow flittered past my eye and I looked up th see this big butterfly land inches from my camera. With a slight shift to the left I managed a couple quick snaps of the brown beauty pictured below. Both pics have the same specs: ISO400, f:2.8, 1/250 sec in aperature priority mode.

In a Fog…
Posted in Daily musings, Photography with tags Daily musings on July 23, 2009 by Ed
Yesterday morning I stopped in Pulaski Virginia in the famed Shennendoah Valley for my break and found myself in a thick fog, literally. As dawn approached a realized I was backed up to a big field at the rear of the truckstop and decided to take a walk with my camera and see if I could get a foggy sunrise. As I worked my way through the knee high wet grass and bushed I found myself at a barbed wire fence and decided not to cross the line. I set up the camera on my tripod and waited, the fog was still pretty thick and I could barely make out the trees less the sun, I mean it was thick in the field to my front. As I stood there in the silence with the fog swirling around me I thought I heard the thundering of hooves and looked up just in time to see 8-10 deer running past me not 15 feet away, they came out of the fog and dissapeared just as fast with the fog swirling around them as they raced past, I was stunned!!! Then I remembered my camera and kicked myself in the butt. I waited a while to see if the fog would break and it did a bit. Well I did manage a couple of pics of the fence row before heading back to the truck and getting some sleep and dreaming of phantom deer in a fog..
