Land of the free, home of the Tax increase…
I was driving in West Virginia and came upon an exit for an interesting place. What kind of place could this be? It says Old Economy but when? I started to think when we had a strong economy, but I had to go back at least 20-40 years. It seems like today we are taxing everything and it is’nt going to get any better anytime soon, the republic of California recently added a .75 cent tax for all energy drinks. Whats next? There is an upcoming .60 cent increase on tobacco products on April 1st, I know there will not be much sympathy for tobacco users but what will happen when they get to something that effects the other folks. How about taxing Alcohol, coffee, toilet paper, makeup, fastfood, the options are out there for the government to tax the hell out of us. Did you know income tax was declared illeagle in 1874? It was reinstated after WW2 to help build the economy. Well its just food for thought, something I’ve been choking on for awhile and needed to get off my chest. Its just paychecks are getting tighter and taxes are going through the roof. How much more can we take????

You’re not the only one who’s been thinking and ranting about just this topic. Your preaching to the choir.

We all feel your pain, especially us seniors. Even Wal-Mart is getting too expensive these days.

You and my husband would get along well. Our property taxes have gone up a huge amount in the 9 years that we have owned our house. I guess all we can do is the best that we can.

I know exactly what you mean..The UK is exactly the same…
I am waiting for the day that they tax the air that we breathe (we already pay a monthly additional tax for living in a house/flat , watching TV etc)..I am sure its just around the corner!!..
Your photo did make me smile..I think we should all move there

“Who will govern the governors? There is only one force in the nation that can be depended upon to keep the government pure and the governors honest, and that is the people themselves” Thomas Jefferson
VOTE, VOTE ! Keep talking about our discontent… it is our right and obligation. If we keep our heads in the sand and leave our asses in the air as a target, who is to blame? OURSELVES! We elect our politicians, if you dont like the choices, recruit better ones, or better yet run yourself! Man I have been on the crate alot today…

I know what you need, Ed. Mindless fun. Therefore I have just tagged you in the game of picture tag. I’ll bet you have fun with it and it’ll take your mind off our country’s precarious situation for a couple of minutes.
See my blog for details. LOL
Loved the pic. And it does make one think.

I found your blog through Far Side of Fifty. This is a subject dear to my heart. Our property taxes are making it almost impossible to keep our farm yet they keep rising. There are taxes here on alcohol (sin tax) and there adding items to the list everyday. When will it stop?

After living in Ireland for a few months (everything taxed–so expensive) we have been so thankful for the comparably “low” taxes here. That’s not to say that taxation is “fun”. Tough times.
