dlb2-3-11-081Well I’m sitting in a truckstop just south of San Antonio Texas trying to decide what to post and I figured I’d drop a Macro shot of a dandelion. Not a technical pic but still anything up close can be interesting. Tonight its on to Laredo Texas, I left New York on friday night and have done 1800 miles in 3 days, not bad in a 60mph truck. I’m hoping they have some cactus in bloom when i get there

woodchuck1-3-27-091woodchuck2-3-27-091woodchuck3-3-27-091How much wood can a woodchuck chuck, if a woodchuck could chuck wood?? This was going through my mind as I stalked this little fella yesterday while waiting to get loaded. At first I thought it was a cat but quickly realized it was something different.. A Woodchuck!! aka. Groundhog. He seemed content looking for goodies until he realized I was there and quickly scampered, well loped off to the relative safety of a drain pipe I waited a bit to see if he would come back out but alas he was gone, till I got back to my truck, and the little bugger came back out again, oh well, maybe next time…:-)

Picture Tag

Posted in Daily musings, Photography with tags on March 26, 2009 by Ed

I got tagged by Sherri at Painting is just another way for a pic challenge, so here is what I came up with. I had already done a 6X6 challenge, so I amped it up to 10X10 and came up with an early shot of flamingos at the Columbus zoo I took way back in 2006 with my old Sony DSH-1 point and shoot.
I’ll pass the TAG challenge on to the following:
Sabrina at Just Flossing the teeth I want to keep
3Collie at Northview Diary
Karen at Life at the Rough String
And Dibear at Retired and Lovin’ it
Just pick the 10th folder and the 10th pic.

Land of the free, home of the Tax increase…

Posted in Daily musings, Mindless Rants with tags on March 25, 2009 by Ed

somewhere-in-west-virginia-3-19-09I was driving in West Virginia and came upon an exit for an interesting place. What kind of place could this be? It says Old Economy but when? I started to think when we had a strong economy, but I had to go back at least 20-40 years. It seems like today we are taxing everything and it is’nt going to get any better anytime soon, the republic of California recently added a .75 cent tax for all energy drinks. Whats next? There is an upcoming .60 cent increase on tobacco products on April 1st, I know there will not be much sympathy for tobacco users but what will happen when they get to something that effects the other folks. How about taxing Alcohol, coffee, toilet paper, makeup, fastfood, the options are out there for the government to tax the hell out of us. Did you know income tax was declared illeagle in 1874? It was reinstated after WW2 to help build the economy. Well its just food for thought, something I’ve been choking on for awhile and needed to get off my chest. Its just paychecks are getting tighter and taxes are going through the roof. How much more can we take????

The Lighthouse

Posted in Daily musings, Photography with tags on March 24, 2009 by Ed

I got a few comments yesterday regarding the lighthouse in Erie Pa. Well here it is, the clouds and trees made photographing it tough but I got close on a couple of pics and this was the better of them. It was made in 1840. For more info search Presque Isle Lighthouse, there are numerous sites dedicated to this lighthouse and the history behind it.

An Erie Day

Posted in Daily musings, Photography with tags on March 23, 2009 by Ed

lake-erie-shore-erie-pa-2-22-09Well Erie Pennsylvania that is. i had a day to kill so I decided to see what Erie has to offer. I went to the Maritime Museum which has a reconstructed tall ahip the US.Brig Niagra which was Oliver Hazard Perrys flagship from the war of 1812 and defeated the Brits at the Battle of Erie but alas it was still covered up from the winter. So i decided to see that the penninsula had to offer and it was pretty cool I got some pics of the shore on the Lake Erie side, there was still ice floating around but most has melted along the shore. There was a cool lighthouse built in 1872 but The sun prevented me of getting a decent shot. It was still a pretty pleasant day and the walk along the shore filled my shoes with sand. :-)
Well here is a pic of the shoreline I have more pics I’ll upload to flicker in a bit.
