6. Even though I am a loner, I have no problem striking up conversations with total strangers.
7. My blog and website are theraputic for easing my depression.
8. I wanted to be a marine biologist in high school.
9. I hate driving in cities.

Blue Law Blues

Posted in Daily musings on December 29, 2008 by Ed

So I pull into a Wal-Mart in Manning South Carolina around 1 a.m. and find out the store is closed till 6 a.m. no problem I have time so I wait till 6 and go in and do some grocery shopping and went to get some batteries and lo and behold the whole non grocery area of the store is roped off.. and a nice sign that states: Due to South Carolinas Blue Law no general merchandise can be sold till 1:30 p.m. !!! What the………I’ve heard of no liquor sold on sundays before noon, but general merchandise? What Ancient, Puritan, BS is this? Its O.K. to buy food but not a pack of batteries? I wondered what would have happened if they did sell me a pack of batteries? Would some men dressed as pilgrims arrest me and throw me in ye’old stocks? According to the employees this has been a law since the states founding in the 1600’s to keep people from conducting business before church. I guess some poor person missed the first 10 minutes of a service due to the selling of a cow or something and made everyone wait. O.K I’m ranting and need to quit. Maybe it’s time to get with the 21st century in the south.

What brings me luck? Well I have had the two boonie hats the longest, the woodland cammo I was issued in 1986 and the desert cammo I was issued in 1990. The zippo is a titanium case my mom gave me in 2001 and carry all the time as well as the CRKT folder I carry in my camera bag. I still have my dog tags also but forgot to put them out.luck

An Intimate Moment

dsc_0673Time for a humor check…
I find myself enjoying looking through my pics trying to find that one pic that tells a story. Unfortunatly this pic says it all, just some deer trying to have a moment alone and there is some dumb schmuck with a telephoto lens snapping pics and giggling like and idiot. Guess who the schmuck was????? So there I am trying to focus and laughing so hard I could’nt. Well I got the pic and left Bambi to finish her business in peace. Just kidding, I kept shooting till she got up and left..
Shot data: Max telephoto 500mm, ISO 400, f3:5, 1/2000sec, tripod mounted.

Whiny Winter Travellers

Posted in Daily musings on December 23, 2008 by Ed

How about some cheese to go with that whine…..
I just read a story about stranded winter travellers complaining that the can’t get to where they want to go because of a natural disaster. Wow what could this be that we were unprepared for, earthquake, hurricane, anything but a winter storm in winter…OH NO!!!! This particular couple knew about the storm in the northwest and still decided to fly from Illinois to Los Angeles and take their chances they could get to Seattle from there. So after complaining to the airline ( like that would do any good ) they are patiently waiting ( yeah right ) and ranting to any media that would listen to them. And here is the kicker, she works for the red cross.
My point to this whole thing…. It’s winter, we have storms that happen this time of year and airports, roads, and bus terminals get shut down. So if you happen to get inconvienced and fly knowing the conditions may inconvience you DON”T WHINE…. go with the flow or stay home.
Being a quasi-professional driver, common sense would tell you if a winter storm in the way, stay off the roads.
Hava a great day….Ed

Why I joined the Army

Posted in Daily musings, Photography with tags , , , on December 22, 2008 by Ed

What do all the pics here have in common? They are all my relatives who served in the military, from my service to my dads to my grandfathers to my great grandfathers. From the 1800’s to the 1990’s my relies have served their countries in the military. I can trace my lineage back at least 200 years I had relitives serve in the american civil war on my moms side but alas no pics, I have had relitives in Afganistan in the 1800’s serving in the british army. During WWI the great war I had my great grandfather Norton serve with the Marines. My grandpa Prescott served in the Canadian army during WW2 and my dad who served as a medic in the 1950’s in Germany, in the early 1960’s my step-dad Chuck served in the U.S. navy and in the 1980’s and 1990’s I and my brother Jason served in the U.S. Army. So I guess military service is in my blood and always has. And to all who serve now I say thanks for your service.
Later ya’ll….Ed
